The Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek has four locations in three states with the Fleet Training Center Dam Neck in Virginia Beach, Radio Island at Morehead City, N.C. and an amphibious area for U.S. Marine Corps units at MCB Camp LeJeune, N.C. The Naval Amphibious Base provides support to military personnel by offering training facilities for amphibious operations. In 2009, Naval Amphibious Base, Little Creek, and Army base, Fort Story merged to become Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. Joint Base Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story is located near Virginia Beach, Virginia. Little Creek has no public or private schools located on site. The Virginia Beach/Norfolk area is home to many excellent public schools and over 200 private schools. Most of the private schools are church affiliated. Home schooling is another option that has to be approved by the Virginia Department of Education. The NAB Little Creek Child Development Center has full-time child care programs for children 6 weeks through five years of age. Housing at NAB Little Creek is privatized, and military personnel are asked to check in at the Regional Housing Referral Office in Norfolk. Applicable housing paperwork can be completed, and the candidate will be put on the waiting list. For off-post housing, the housing office keeps a list of available properties as well as being able to help with applicable BAH rates. Prior to starting an independent housing search, personnel are asked to check with the housing office prior to signing a lease. Lease need to include a military clause, so no penalties apply if the individual is unable to complete the 6-12 month lease. Temporary lodging is available in three separate areas: the Visitors Quarters, the Navy Lodge and in local hotels. It is recommended that you made advance reservations prior to arrival. Many hotels and motels in the surrounding communities also offer military rates. To call for reservations, contact the Visitors Quarters at 1-877-ZUMWALT.
